The Tools
The most common tool leveraged in this space is the ubiquitous Excel spreadsheet. For a more organized and slightly larger budget projects, the MS Project solution is common.

However, none of these solutions are really good for collaborative team management and dynamic schedule updates.

Microsoft’s Project Server eliminates some of these limitations by exposing the MS Project schedules over the web. Several smaller companies including Metafuse (Project Insight) and eProject also have viable products in this space.
